Tanveer Ahmed is currently a psychiatrist but on the way he's been a doctor, a journalist, a stand-up comedian, and a TV game show character.

The Exotic Rissole is his often disastrous (and even more often hilarious) memoir about growing up in an immigrant Bangladeshi family in Sydney. One of Brisbane’s favourite local authors, Benjamin Law, will be launching Tanveer’s memoir on the night.

Come along to this free event for a glass of wine and to hear funny tales of family and cultural miscommunication.

About the book:

Can life be too spicy? Suffering from an overload of turmeric and the complexities of growing up in an immigrant Bangladeshi family in Sydney, eleven-year-old Tanveer Ahmed thinks it probably can.

After joining a cricket team that gets mistaken for a terrorist group, a stint as a Bollywood-style game show host, and discovering an aversion to dead bodies as a medical student, Tanveer, quite inevitably, decides he’ll become a psychiatrist.

Cultures collide and identities mix in this joyful memoir, all held together loosely with breadcrumbs and egg.
