There is no doubt that armed forces have committed crimes from time to time! I am not a fan of the army but I hate the “politicians”. If they were not corrupted we would not have had all these issues today! Hence, if anyone needs to be hanged first, “it should be the politicians regardless of their political affiliation”. It is easier to write commentaries; however none of us can deny that each and everyone of us is responsible for -today’s Bangladesh! I will blame myself first and then blame others instead of blaming other and keeping myself out of the loop!

A class of people is very active to portray the ambition of few high ranked defense officials as the work of the whole defense force. The same class of people tactfully avoid talking about the contribution of the ‘army’ If I may mention a few- their contribution in the liberation war, in protecting the country, their work during natural & other disasters, and in more recent times their contribution in saving the country from a civil war during the late period of the last elected government. It appears that these people have an agenda behind their propaganda which may serve the interest of some masters behind the curtains.

To Bijoy:
1. Do you think only the politicians are corrupt and there's no corruption in the defence force?
2. I do not blame myself for all the problems Bangladesh is facing today, just as I dont blame myself for all the problems Australia is facing today.
3. It's more important to think why people become corrupt, what can be done to prevent it, how the other successful nations of the world handle such issues.

I think corruption can be reduced to tolerable level by practicing democracy, tolerance, accountability, performace based appointment/job security. Bangladeshis were denied all these due to long military dictatorship.

To Shawon:
Compared to what the farmers and labours have done for the country, Army's contribution is very little. Army can reclaim their image and earn people's love by acknowleding their past mistakes. They need to disown the mischiefs of the dictators.

Also dont forget the army gets a lot of previlege benefits in a very poor country like bangladesh. Their primary role is to serve and defend the country not to promote a General as a dictator.

A country like Bangaldesh do not need a defence force. All its citizen need to be trained with military training and decipline. That way the recources consumed by army would be much better spent.

To Shawon:
Remember, "masters behind the curtains" can only act when there's "enemy within". A democratic Government relies on people's power do not need to rely on foreign help for their power. On the other hand history says it's much easier to control a Military dictator by foreign power.

Also people need to remember, the rulers are in fact the SERVANTS OF PEOPLE not the other way around.

In response to Supa
1. I have not said, there is no corruption in the Defence Forces.
2. Whether you blame yourself or not is your choice. I do blame myself as I have not done enough in terms of contributions.Example of Australia is irrelevant as I was not raised in this country.
3. Any country in the world needs a defence force to protect their borders and protect their people.
4. Yes, corruption can be reduced to tolerable levels by practising democracy, accountability etc. Everyone knows this. None of the political parties practiced this.AL and BNP had their times in power. What did they do?
They did corruption. It was their responsibility to implement good goverance and take necessary measures to reduce corruption. They failed.
Instead of all these debates, forward NRBs' need to contribute towards Bangladesh in whatever form they can.The important thing is to get started. .....

To Borhan Shafi:
In order to contribute towards Bangladesh, one must first know the history and understand what prevents Bangladesh from moving forward. I dont blame politicians for all the problems - it's the system that allowed them to be corrupt and get away with it. If you really want to remove corruption you must bring accountability, transparacy etc. from which the Bangladeshis were denied due to mainly militarism.

History tells us that there's no substitution to politicians. The benefits we all enjoy today are the results of sacrifices made by the politicians. Corrupt people always deserve our hatred - may it be a politician, military dictator or a religious leader. Let's find ways to deal with corruption and not just "hate" all the politicians.

Another important point is, if the corruption remains unpunished, it will encourage others to follow the same route. Corruption is a crime. When a military dictator takes power and then becomes a politician himself that's also a crime. It does not enhance military's name.

Let's think of the ways how can these corruption be prevented or reduced. Let's find ways to prevent undemocratic autocrats from taking power and become our masters rather than servants. Let's expose and punish some of the high profile corrupt people - like Tarek Rahman, Coco, Babor etc. and bring bring their money and spend for people who they deceived.
