সন্ধ্যা ছিল মনোরম,

খাবারদাবার সবই মনোহর,

দাওয়াতীরা খোশগল্পে মশগুল ,

অল্পস্বল্প গল্প সব নিয়ে চলছিল।

রবীন্দ্রনাথ থেকে ফুলসজ্জা সব সব

ঐ যে কি নাম যেন?

জাপানের ইকাবেনা নাকি ইকেবানা?

তখনই টিভিতে খবর

বিরক্তিকর

ভূমিকম্পে কোথাকার হাইতিতে

মানুষ মরেছে হাজারে না লাখে

সে খবর কি দরকারে লাগে?

কাক একটি মরে পড়লো

কাকেরা ছুটে এসে জুটে বসে

সবে মিলে শুরু করে কা কা;

দাওয়াতীরা হাইতীর মৃতের জন্য

একবারও বললো না আহা!

রবীন্দ্র আকড়ে আধুনিক হতে চাওয়া

মানুষেরা শোন,

জালিয়ানওয়ালায় মানুষ যখন হয়েছিল খুন

প্রতিবাদে রবী করেছিল তাঁর ‘স্যার’ উপাধি বর্জন।

Yes, the so called Bengalee-moderns have always kept themselves aloof from human trgedies and disasters. The elites have distanced themselves from peasants of Bengal during the rule of British-raj whereas the upper classes along with the colonial-masters thrived on their produce. The famines, the floods, and the droughts cannot touch the elites. The oppressed are meant to suffer as their original sin was the fact that they dared to be born on this planet!
